Each
Leadership Live! session begins with a week-long training program and is
followed by practical experience designed to challenge you as a high school
young person living a life pleasing to God and desiring to discover and
develop your leadership potential. The training week begins with two days of
intensive leadership training sessions and personal evaluations. The rest of
the week is filled with projects and opportunities to put into practice the
“leadership through service” principles you have learned. The week also
includes activities, independent study projects, cabin unity building,
special chapel services, dedicated counselors, and participation in the
day-to-day work of Ironwood.
For
summer 2010, we have two sessions—June 7–July 17 and July 12–August 21—each
beginning with a week of training. All who wish to attend Leadership Live!
must work at least one full session. This opportunity to apply the
principles taught during the week of training is essential to the success of
this program. Service opportunities are primarily on our Homestead team
(serving tables and washing dishes) and our maintenance and grounds teams
(projects, maintenance, and trash removal.) In addition to these job
responsibilities, those that are qualified will have opportunities to
counsel young people who respond to the invitations during our evening
services and to serve as prayer partners to our college-age counselors.
Please
take the time as you complete your application to carefully consider which
of the sessions to which you would be able to commit. After choosing one or
both of the sessions, fill out the contract and complete the application. In
order to serve the campers well, we may need to make some adjustments to
your request. If you desire to attend summer camp, please choose a week of
camp that is not during the session you are working. If you have any
questions, please e-mail
istaff@ironwood.org with “Leadership Live!” in the subject line or call
the camp office (760.257.3503).
Please
fill out the application and
medical form and return them to us with your $50 registration fee or
your total camp fee (fee is for new campers only; no charge for veterans).
Once your application is accepted, the registration fee is non-refundable;
it does apply toward the total camp fee. Also, please hand out the two
reference forms to
your pastor and youth pastor and ask them to mail their completed forms
directly to us in the provided envelopes. After receiving your application,
contract, medical form, and both references, we will contact you in regards
to a spot in the program. Because the enrollment is limited and the training
is intensive and specific, we are able to select only a portion of those
young people who are interested.
